Inaugural ILRAJ High School Debate Championship

We are delighted to announce the inaugural ILRAJ High School Debate Championship, bringing together school pupils in Freetown to debate the theme: Civic Education, Justice, and the Rule of Law.

Date: Friday 10th and Saturday 11th October 2025
Venue: Multi-Purpose Hall, Fourah Bay College

The Championship is a flagship ILRAJ initiative designed to:

  • Cultivate analytical thinking, public speaking, and civic engagement.

  • Encourage youth participation in democratic discourse.

  • Equip pupils with critical reasoning, persuasive communication, and respectful dialogue.

Twenty secondary schools will compete in this maiden edition, engaging in thought-provoking debates that sharpen their ability to evaluate evidence, appreciate diverse perspectives, and construct coherent arguments.

Prizes, awards, and trophies will recognise the dedication of all participants, with a special cash prize for the winning team.

Organised by the Institute for Legal Research and Advocacy for Justice (ILRAJ), an independent, non-partisan think tank dedicated to advancing human rights, the rule of law, and legal empowerment.
