Rhoda Sufian-Kargbo Nuni
Rhoda Sufian-Kargbo Nuni holds an LL.B. (Hons), LL.M., B.L (Sierra Leone) and B.L (Ontario, Canada). She is a Barrister at Law, Managing Partner, Sufian-Kargbo-Pratt & Co (Barristers and Solicitors). She is a Consultant Senior Legal Officer – Residual Special Court for Sierra Leone Commissioner – Sierra Leone Law Reform Commission.
Basita Michael
Basita Michael is a Barrister and Solicitor of the High Court of Sierra Leone. She holds a Bachelor of Laws degree from the University of Sierra Leone and a Master of Laws Degree (Order of Merit), BL in international criminal justice from Queen Mary University in London. She is the Founder of SierraEye Magazine, a quarterly magazine. With her passion for challenging, defending, and speaking out for the disadvantaged and the marginalised, Basita established the Institute of Legal Research and Advocacy for Justice (ILRAJ). (www.ilraj.org). She organized various Moot Court competitions, such as the Nasiru Deen Tejan-Cole and the Edmond Labib Michael Inter-Collegiate competition in 2021. She worked with several women’s groups to draft an improved version of the Gender Equality and Women Empowerment Bill. She has been practicing law for the past 18 years in the firm of MICHAEL & MICHAEL. She was also a lecturer in law at Fourah Bay College. In 2018, she was elected and served as the President of the Sierra Leone Bar Association. She was also a member of the Judicial and Legal Service Commission.
Martin Michael
Martin Michael is a Barrister and Solicitor of the High Court of Sierra Leone. He is a Senior Partner in the firm of Michael and Michael. He is the MD Mercury International SL Limited and Chair Radio Mercury. Between 2008-2010, he lectured law at the Sierra Leone Law School. He is a graduate of Stonyhurst College, Manchester University and Sierra Leone Law School.
Osman Jalloh
Osman Jalloh is a Barrister and Solicitor of the Superior Court of Judicature of Sierra Leone Notary Public and Commissioner for Oaths. Osman is a founding member of the practice and is currently the Lead Partner. He has over 15 years of experience at the bar focusing on litigation at all levels in the superior court of Sierra Leone, principally on corporate commercial matters, admiralty, banking and financing, investment, tax, telecommunication, insolvency, employment, trust and estates, media, and constitutional law.
Nancy D. Sesay
Nancy D. Sesay serves as a Board Member of the Institute for Legal Research and Advocacy for Justice. Nancy is a legal practitioner with deep experience across civil society, philanthropy, and private practice in Sierra Leone.
Nancy worked extensively with non-governmental organisations in Sierra Leone, including Legal Access for Women Yearning for Equality Rights and Social Justice. Her work focused on advancing the rights of marginalised and vulnerable groups, with strong emphasis on women and children. Practice areas included family law, human rights, and juvenile justice.
As Deputy Director at Timap for Justice, a leading local organisation, Nancy contributed to pioneering the use of paralegals as frontline access to justice providers. This work supported national legal reform efforts and contributed to the enactment of the Legal Aid Act 2012 and the establishment of the Sierra Leone Legal Aid Board.
At the Open Society Initiative for West Africa, Nancy worked on equality, justice reform, rule of law, and human rights. Nancy led the legal empowerment initiative of the Open Society Foundations within OSIWA. Responsibilities included grant making, project management, and advocacy across the region.
Nancy currently works as a consultant lawyer with Namati, supporting land rights and environmental justice initiatives. Nancy also serves as a Senior Associate Lawyer at GPKLegal, a leading private law firm in Sierra Leone. Through Nancy’s role on the Board, you gain access to sustained expertise in legal empowerment, justice reform, and rights-based advocacy.
